It’s a playground for Waterloo Region tech, and possibly the coolest place on earth. It’s the Communitech Hub.
About the Communitech Hub
The Communitech Hub is located in Kitchener’s historic Tannery District. A clubhouse for the Waterloo Region tech ecosystem, the Communitech Hub opened its doors in 2010 thanks to major investments from the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada, along with the support of other key partners.
Since then, Communitech has played a key role in tech company deals totaling more than $500 million and the emergence of hundreds of new digital media companies. More than 600 companies in benefited from the Communitech Hub’s programs during its inaugural year.
Today, the Communitech Hub is 44,000 square feet dedicated to world-leading collaboration and innovation. Our unique model brings together key players—from early stage companies to large multinationals as well as government agencies, academic institutions, technology incubators and an accelerator—all under one roof. Working together, we create an environment that fuels job creation and company growth.
The Communitech Hub is one of many hubs that comprise the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN). CDMN works to establish Canada as a world leader in Digital Media by connecting these groups, helping their entrepreneurs, academic groups and governments collaborate and speeding the commercialization of Canada’s digital talent, products and companies.
A model unique to the world, the Communitech Hub is a place like no other. Drop by any time!

Communitech Hub facilities
The Tannery Event Centre
The Tannery has been revitalized from a formerly robust turn-of-the-century mill to a contemporary trend setting district. The aging infrastructure of this facility has been modernized and invigorated to embrace historical charm which lies beneath. With capacity for up to 250 guests, the 3500 ft² Tannery Event Space is used for everything from entertainment to education to weddings.
The facility is operated by Bingemans and bookings can be made by contacting Lauren Fennell.
Executive Briefing Centre
The 800-ft.² Executive Briefing Centre (EBC) brings professionalism to any meeting and can accommodate large groups in this enormous boardroom. Along with a 30-seat table, the EBC now offers video capture and webcast capability along with audio/visual equipment supported by Christie Digital.
An ideal venue for wooing investors or holding seminars and workshops, the EBC will make startups look (and feel) like blue-chips, and give larger companies the ability to bring remote analysts, customers and stakeholders into the conversation. The Executive Briefing Centre can be booked by groups and organizations from outside the Communitech Hub. For more information, availability and rates, please contact reception.
Lang Video Conferencing Room
The Lang Video Conferencing Room brings full MAGOR videoconferencing to the Hub. Only Magor TeleCollaboration integrates advanced collaboration with high definition video to provide the richest visual collaboration experience possible without burdening the network or increasing IT costs.
The Lang Video Conferencing Room can be booked by groups and organizations from outside the Communitech Hub. For more information, availability and rates, please contact reception.
The HIVE (Hub Interactive Virtual Environment)

The HIVE is powered by 12 Christie Mirage HD6 stereoscopic DLP® projectors, enabling the display of vast amounts of data in a totally immersive setting for advanced research capability.
Integrating 3D technology and user-directed displays, the HIVE will provide partner companies with both promotional and research opportunities. Hub partners will be able to use the HIVE to provide experiences where researchers, customers or other stakeholders can inform, learn and design.
