The Communitech Hub is a 44,000 ft² a digital media innovation center that brings entrepreneurs, multi-national companies, and academic institutions together under one roof to build global digital media companies.
Since the opening of The Communitech Hub in October 2010, Communitech has played a key role in tech company deals totaling more than $500 million and the emergence of 164 new digital media companies. Not to mention, more than 600 companies in total benefited from The Communitech Hub’s programs during its inaugural year.
Located in Kitchener, Ontario—in what used to be the British Commonwealth’s largest tannery—The Communitech Hub houses technology start-ups, splices innovation into enterprise, seeds partnerships, fuses digital media with venture capital and brings entrepreneurs, multinational companies and academic institutions together. The Hub is the largest of Communitech’s three facilities in Waterloo Region.
The Hub was made possible through the support of the Province of Ontario, which contributed $26 Million to the project, and through the support of leading technology companies in Waterloo Region, including Research in Motion, OpenText, Agfa, Christie Digital and many others.
Node on a National Network
The Communitech Hub is one of many nodes that comprise the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN).
CDMN works to establish Canada as a world leader in Digital Media by connecting these groups, helping their entrepreneurs, academic groups and governments collaborate, and speeding the commercialization of Canada’s digital talent, products, and companies.
Who’s here?
The Hub hosts a diverse group of academic institutions, research bodies, and advisors from both the public and private sector.
The Hub serves the many groups that make up Digital Media, such as start-ups, small to medium enterprises, multinationals, and educational institutions.
