Minister praises Kitchener-Waterloo

Minister Glen Murray praises Kitchener-Waterloo on The Agenda from Communitech on Vimeo.

Glen Murray, Ontario’s Minister of Research and Innovation, appeared on The Agenda last night. His 20 minutes of TV time were punctuated by multiple references to Kitchener-Waterloo, to the point where interviewer Steve Paikin sounded a little exasperated.

If you want to skip through, here are the sweet spots.

14:40 (Paikin) This is the fifth time you’ve mentioned Kitchener-Waterloo

14:50 (Murray) How do we export from Kitchener-Waterloo that culture of innovation? How do you create that culture of innovation? Of the 100 most innovative companies in Canada, 9 or 10 of them are in Kitchener-Waterloo

17:00 (Murray)[Kitchener-Waterloo is] extraordinary in North America, not just Ontario. They’ve got the knowledge culture of entrepreneurship and shared capital and collaborative investment. People don’t just see investing in their business but in their cluster.

Great to see Waterloo Region being held up as a model of innovation! We’ve definitely have a reason to be proud. But I’m happy we’re not resting on our laurels and continually seeking to improve not only in the tech sector but to benefit the community as a whole.
