Communitech announces 2020 cancellation of Waterloo Region’s True North Festival

Community-run event series cancelled amid COVID-19 outbreak

KITCHENER, ONT., March 10, 2020 — In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, Communitech has decided to cancel the 2020 True North Festival. In addition to consulting with our festival partners and community members, Communitech came to this decision after working diligently with health authorities to determine the best way forward for our much-loved and most-anticipated event of the year.

“The health and safety of our visitors, members, staff and the broader Waterloo Region community is of the utmost importance to not only Communitech but to our festival partners,” said Iain Klugman, CEO and president at Communitech. “It is out of an abundance of caution, and with much disappointment, that we concluded that cancelling this year’s event is the right thing to do.” 

In its third year, True North Festival was set to take place in the heart of Waterloo Region from June 1-7, 2020. This week-long event series brings tech founders, creative thinkers, movers, shakers and policymakers together to examine what it means to be human – and humane – in our tech-driven world. 

Communitech looks forward to resuming the True North Festival in 2021.
