Communitech Outposts partners with MAPLE Business Council

Employer-of-record service’s new partnership will help Canadian startups growing in U.S. markets

KITCHENER, ONT., April 28, 2021 — Communitech Outposts, an employer-of-record service for small and medium-sized businesses across Canada, is excited to announce an exclusive partnership with MAPLE Business Council® to support the growth of Canadian startups in the United States.

“Having a well-established Canadian-led, cross-border business network active in key U.S. markets naturally complements Communitech Outposts’ focus on helping our clients to be successful internationally,” said Azhar Janjua, Head of Communitech Outposts. “We look forward to helping our Canadian clients take advantage of the many valuable opportunities to raise their visibility in key U.S. markets by becoming members of MAPLE Business Council.”

Communitech Outposts was introduced in 2019 to help Canadian companies hire sales employees and foster revenue growth in international markets. For companies working on their own, the amount of work and risk associated with setting up an international entity to hire talent can be prohibitive. Communitech Outposts manages all aspects of employing people in foreign jurisdictions – such as payroll, benefits and statutory filings – enabling companies to access previously out-of-reach talent and enter new markets more quickly, with minimal regulatory risk. This service is available in more than 160 countries, including key international markets such as the U.S., U.K., Germany, India, Netherlands, Ireland, France, Australia, China and many more,

Together, MAPLE Business Council and Communitech Outposts will undertake activities to generate awareness of each organization’s mission and services to their respective communities and networks. As a senior executive networking community focused on growing economic ties between Canada and the U.S. in Southern California and New York, MAPLE represents a valuable networking ecosystem for employees of Communitech Outposts client companies, and the companies themselves.

“A key team member of a Waterloo startup working in Los Angeles or New York can network with MAPLE members and partners who have ties to Canada and who also value the opportunity for doing more business together,” said Robert Kelle, co-founder of MAPLE. “Plugging the local executive into our community adds valuable networking and content opportunities that can assist both the employee and the Canadian parent to continue to grow in the region.”

As a cross-border network, about 40 per cent of MAPLE members are based across Canada with Ontario being a key market.

“Utilizing our communication platforms, we will be sharing what Communitech Outposts offers growing Canadian companies who may look at the challenges of hiring team members in the U.S. as an impediment to expanding their presence in Southern California or New York,” said Stephen Armstrong, co-founder of MAPLE. “Moreover, for the remaining 60 per cent of our members who are based in the U.S., Communitech, as a major stakeholder within one of Canada’s leading innovation regions, represents a significant networking resource to get to know when considering expanding to Canada.”

About Communitech

Communitech was founded in 1997 by a group of entrepreneurs committed to making Waterloo Region a global innovation leader. At the time it was a wild idea, but somehow this community managed to pull it off. Today, Communitech is a public-private innovation hub that supports a community of more than 1,600 companies — from startups to scale-ups to large global players.

Communitech helps tech companies start, grow and succeed in three distinct ways.

  • Communitech is a place – the centre of gravity for entrepreneurs and innovators. A clubhouse for building cool tech and great companies.

  • Communitech delivers programs – helping companies at all stages with access to capital, customers and talent. We are here to help them grow and innovate.

  • Communitech partners in building a world-leading ecosystem – making sure we have all the ingredients (and the brand) to help companies go from a small startup to a global giant.
