Alchemy, a Kitchener-based nanotechnology company, has raised $6 million to scale production and expand internationally.

The company develops advanced materials for the defence and automotive sectors. Its Crypsis Class technology is designed to conceal heat signatures, making it more difficult for people and equipment to be detected using thermal imaging.

Alchemy has partnered with a major military garment manufacturer and is in talks with the Department of National Defence, as well as NATO and Five Eyes allies.

“Modern defence requires not only more resilient materials, but also smarter ways of protecting people and equipment in the field,” CEO and co-founder Khanjan Desai said in a statement. “Crypsis Class represents a breakthrough in thermal camouflage, and with this investment, we can accelerate its development and deliver it at scale to Canada and its allies.”

The company is also expanding ExoShield ULTRA, a windshield protection film that is being adapted for airplanes and helicopters. New manufacturing equipment will be added to its Kitchener facility to meet growing demand.

“With automotive and defence both undergoing rapid transformation, we see enormous potential for Alchemy’s technologies across industries,” Desai said. “This investment gives us the resources to scale faster, expand internationally, and grow our team to meet the opportunity ahead.”

The funding round included investments from NameSilo Technologies, Pathfinder Asset Management and Pembroke Management.
