BeBlended is a purpose-built platform connecting Black clients with stylists who understand their hair. Founded by engineer-turned-entrepreneur Aileen Agada, the Waterloo Region-based platform is helping independent stylists grow their businesses while filling a systemic gap in culturally competent hair care.
Challenge
For many Black Canadians, finding a stylist who understands their hair is a persistent challenge. Agada experienced this first-hand when she was repeatedly turned away from salons that lacked training in Black hair care.
When she surveyed more than 2,000 Black women on Facebook, 670 responded. This was a clear sign of unmet demand and revealed a wider systemic issue, including the lack of textured-hair training in cosmetology schools. Clients were left underserved and stylists struggled to connect with the people who needed their expertise most.
Solution
Agada launched BeBlended, a platform designed specifically for the Black hair care community. It is more than a directory. It is a business and community tool that works for both clients and stylists.
For clients, onboarding is simple and lets them choose their hair textures and preferred styles. This ensures they are matched with the right stylists.
For stylists, BeBlended offers scheduling, payment processing and financial literacy tools that help them run and grow their businesses.
Built with input from hundreds of women, the platform reflects the realities of Black hair care from protective styling to culturally significant events.
Results and Impact
BeBlended is seeing strong traction. Some stylists have doubled their monthly income with one jumping from $2,500 to $5,000 a month, thanks to the platform.
The service is live in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Kitchener, Waterloo and parts of the GTA. Clients from as far as New York, Tokyo and Zurich have signed up, hoping the service will soon expand to their cities.
Beyond numbers, BeBlended is supporting people through milestone moments like weddings and graduations and building a loyal community that feels seen and valued.
The response to Agada’s initial survey confirmed the need for this solution and showed the power of listening to the community. By creating technology that reflects the cultural and practical needs of its users, BeBlended has built trust and adoption. It also proves that solving overlooked problems can be a powerful business opportunity.

Next Steps
Agada and BeBlended are participating in the next stage of their journey as part of the Communitech Fierce Founders Intensive Track cohort, made possible through support from FedDev Ontario’s Regional Innovation Ecosystem (RIE) funding. This funding strengthens innovation networks and helps tech companies grow at every stage of their journey.
Fierce Founders Intensive Track helps women and non-binary founders from equity-deserving groups accelerate their path from startup to world leader. Participants receive one-on-one support from experienced Communitech growth coaches, guidance to build and execute their growth strategy and the opportunity to qualify for up to $50,000 in matching seed funds.
For Agada, this means building on BeBlended’s early traction, identifying new markets and taking steps toward her goal of becoming a global leader in Black beauty tech.
