Building a borderless workforce: DOZR’s expansion with Outposts

Tuesday, April 22, 2025

The shift to post-pandemic remote work has transformed how companies operate, and DOZR is embracing this change head-on. DOZR is a fast-growing, fully remote tech company making it easier for contractors to rent heavy equipment online. It’s building an inclusive, connected, and high-performing culture that spans North America and beyond. But global expansion comes with challenges, and managing compliance, payroll, and local employment laws can get complicated

In a recent episode of Tech About Town, host Alex Kinsella sat down with Karen Klink, Director of Outposts Partnerships and Business Development at Communitech, and Stacy Curtis, VP of People and Culture at DOZR, to unpack how Outposts helps scaling companies expand by offering an all-inclusive global hiring solution.

Outposts: DOZR’s global hiring superpower

Outposts is an employer of record (EOR) platform that helps Canadian companies hire talent in over 150 countries without the challenge of setting up legal entities. DOZR partnered with Communitech Outposts to hire seamlessly across multiple states in the U.S. by overcoming any compliance or legal roadblocks.

“With construction being our core business, the U.S., especially the southern states, was a key region for us. We needed people in-market to truly understand what our customers were seeing and feeling. Communitech Outposts made that possible by giving us a compliant, local presence across multiple U.S. states so we could grow with confidence,” said Stacy Curtis.

Compliance without the complexity

Global growth means pushing through obstacles like employment laws, taxes and regulations. Karen Klink highlighted how Outposts simplifies this process and manages terminations, resignations and legal compliance. It stays ahead of evolving employment laws, ensuring businesses stay compliant wherever they grow.

“We take on the burden of compliance so companies can focus on what they do best, building their business,” said Klink. “From payroll to benefits to navigating labour laws, Outposts makes it possible for companies to test new markets without unnecessary risk.”

Growth vs. profitability: finding the balance

Like many tech companies, DOZR has shifted from hyper-growth to a strategic focus on profitability. Curtis said having a local presence in key U.S. markets is critical for hiring and understanding regional sales culture and industry challenges.

“In construction, reputation and relationships matter,” said Curtis. “We need people on the ground who understand the local market, and Outposts makes that possible without us having to set up legal entities in every state.”

What’s next for DOZR?

Waterloo Region was just the beginning. DOZR is now scaling across North America. With Outposts by their side, they’re set to scale even further.

“When you’re in the scaling stage, your team is lean, and you don’t always have the in-house expertise to manage complex HR and compliance issues,” said Curtis. “Outposts gives us that expertise on demand, plus an extra set of hands when we’re ramping up hiring.”

Global growth on your roadmap? Let Outposts do the heavy lifting. Reach out now and start hiring with confidence!
