For developers who are passionate about creating educational tools, Think Data-Driven Education - The ASN™ Open Data Challenge, is a six-week challenge to build the best app that utilizes machine-readable curriculum data. Unlike a traditional hackathon, this challenge provides you the necessary time to build an incredible solution to address a specific problem.

Prizes will be awarded in three different categories:

    • Post-Secondary Students
    • Post-Secondary Instructor/Researcher
    • Entrepreneur

To enter, submit an application form and a brief video explaining your digital solution.

Developers have the potential to change education. In order for students to meet and exceed provincial curriculum standards, they must be able to measure their skills and knowledge against a benchmark. Machine-readable curriculum for subjects from Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) is essential for developing digital tools to encourage and measure learning.

For the past few months, D2L, a leader in online teaching and learning, and Canada’s Open Data Exchange (ODX), a not-for-profit organization focused on open data commercialization, have worked together to transform curriculum into machine-readable data. This data is now available on the Achievement Standards Network™ (ASN™) covering various K-12 subjects for Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and British Columbia.

If you’re a developer in the EdTech space, we want to see what you can do! Create a digital solution that addresses a need that you see in education. Submit your app idea and you could win a HP EliteBook Notebook. Challenge closes on May 26, 2016.
