Deloitte, a leading Canadian professional services firm, has opened an innovation lab at the Communitech Hub.

“We’re excited about the partnership with Deloitte, because it’s such a great opportunity for both organizations,” said Iain Klugman, CEO of Communitech, on today’s announcement.

The new lab, called d { } (dee space), plans to focus on rapid prototyping and the development of emerging technologies.

“Through d { }, Deloitte will offer industry insights and technical solutions to help technology companies bring their best ideas to life in functional and practical applications,” said Jeff Bowman, Partner in Consulting at Deloitte.

The lab will be home to a team of designers and developers, and a “discovery zone” where visitors can interact with new technologies.

Aside from exposing the company to new technologies, Deloitte’s presence provides opportunities for existing Communitech companies.

“Being located in the Communitech Hub will give Deloitte a window into the latest innovations, while also providing our companies with access to industry analysis, as well as new potential customers and partners through Deloitte’s network,” Klugman.

Deloitte plans to take part in Communitech Collision events, which bring startups and small-to-medium enterprises together with large global brands.

“d { } will also provide Deloitte clients with direct access to new disruptive technologies and a glimpse into the realm of what is possible beyond their current perception,” said Terry Stuart, Chief Innovation Officer at Deloitte.

Deloitte will also support Communitech’s women in entrepreneurship initiative and its new sales accelerator, Rev.

“Embedding ourselves inside a vibrant startup environment with the latest technologies is critical to changing our talent agenda and accelerating our new solution development,” Stuart said.

Deloitte is the latest large company to establish an innovation outpost in the Communitech Hub. Others include Canadian Tire, Canon, TD Bank Group and Manulife.
