DigitalEd, the Maplesoft spin-off company formed to bring enhanced focus to online education for science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, has begun operations as a separate corporation. As its first official act of business, DigitalEd announced a new release of its Möbius platform for online education, including new versions of its products that provide automated testing and assessment, placement testing, and interactive courseware to educational institutions around the world. The latest release includes major enhancements to analytics and performance.

Möbius 2018 is capable of capturing large amounts of data about how students interact with lessons, assignments, and other content. This data provides educators with greater insight into how their students are learning, and gives them the means to measure the effectiveness of their content. Ready-made dashboards make it easy to examine the data at both the overview level and in detail. They provide information such as the amount of time students spend on each question in an assignment, and whether students are making use of automatically generated practice questions. They also tell instructors if students are skipping over portions of lessons and what impact that has on their ability to answer questions correctly.

“Schools are finding that they must provide online education options to meet the needs and expectations of their students, manage growth, and stay competitive. DigitalEd was formed to help them do just that,” says Jim Cooper, Chief Executive Officer at DigitalEd. “To be successful, the online aspects of a course have to be at least as good as the traditional classroom versions, and with Möbius 2018, our customers have the environment, tools, and data they need to make it even better.”

Möbius 2018 provides substantial performance improvements, with tests showing up to 10 times speed-up in assignment navigation, and doubling of computation speed. Plotting improvements provide more plot types and options, more interactivity, and enhanced appearance. Möbius 2018 also employs modern security techniques to protect customer data, and for European customers, Möbius 2018 is fully GDPR compliant.

The University of Waterloo is a prominent user of the Möbius platform and its products. In a blend of highly effective technology infrastructure with top quality content, Maplesoft and the University of Waterloo entered an agreement last year that combines Möbius with Waterloo-developed content in math and other STEM subjects to offer several online courses. The Secondary School Courseware project, a courseware site designed to support high school students and teachers in their Precalculus and Calculus courses, is also a product of this collaboration. This partnership continues with DigitalEd.

Improvements to the Möbius platform are available for Möbius Courseware, Möbius Assessment, and Möbius MAA Placement, which are the new names for the products previously known as Möbius, Maple T.A. and Maple T.A. MAA Placement Test Suite.
