Do venture capitalists love the smell of sauerkraut in the morning?

We’ll find out, as Communitech’s annual Techtoberfest gets under way today. It'll feature a customary Bavarian-style lunch on Friday in a nod to Waterloo Region’s roots.

Techtoberfest, an annual two-day celebration for the region’s large-and-growing startup community, has a special theme this year – venture capital – and 57 VCs from all over North America are registered to attend.

There’s extra reason to celebrate this time, as Montreal-based iNovia Capital has just announced it will open an office in Waterloo Region. That makes iNovia the only VC in town – for now.

iNovia managing partner Chris Arsenault will be among attendees at Techtoberfest, which includes a high-voltage roster of speakers and panelists, a full afternoon of private VC one-on-one sessions with high-potential startups, and of course, plenty of after-hours Gemuetlichkeit (that’s German for warm friendliness).

Communitech News will bring you daily wrap-ups of the proceedings, along with an interview with Arsenault. Our Twitter feed will carry highlights throughout both days, so be sure to follow @Communitech for updates.
